DayZ Gameplay Editor (cfggameplay.json)
The cfggameplay.json controls dozens of gameplay rules on your DayZ server — stamina, base building checks, respawn behaviour, night lighting, temperatures and more. This editor walks you through all of it step by step, explains every value in plain language and builds a clean, ready-to-use file at the end. Start from the vanilla settings of your map or import your existing file.
Which map does your server run?
The editor starts with the official vanilla values of your map — they differ in temperatures, night lighting and one placement check.
You can switch the map later: your changed values are kept, everything else follows the new map's vanilla defaults.
Already have a cfggameplay.json?
Import your current file — all known values are loaded into the editor. Entries the editor doesn't know (e.g. from mods) are preserved and written back on export.
Beginner mode with one-click presets like Unlimited Stamina or Build Anywhere — Pro mode unlocks every single value with explanations.
Import your existing cfggameplay.json safely: unknown or modded entries are kept untouched and end up in the exported file again.
The final review lists every change compared to vanilla before you download — so you always know exactly what your file does.
How the editor works
Pick the map your server runs (Chernarus, Livonia or Sakhal) — the editor loads that map's official vanilla values as the starting point. You can also import your current cfggameplay.json; all your values are taken over and anything the editor doesn't know (e.g. from mods) is preserved unchanged.
Walk through the steps: quick settings like Disable Base Damage or Unlimited Stamina, base building rules, UI and map behaviour, and climate settings with a live temperature chart. Every setting has a short description plus an info icon with the full explanation. Switch to Pro mode at any time to fine-tune every single value — changes made in Beginner mode carry over.
The last step shows every change you made compared to vanilla, the finished JSON, and exact install instructions: upload the file into your mission folder and enable it with one line in your serverDZ.cfg.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cfggameplay.json in DayZ?
It's an official configuration file introduced by Bohemia Interactive that lets server admins change gameplay behaviour without any mods: stamina consumption, base building placement checks, respawn dialogs, night lighting, monthly temperatures, hit indicators and much more. It lives in your mission folder (e.g. mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/) and only takes effect when it is enabled in the server config.
How do I enable the cfggameplay.json on my server?
Place the file in your mission folder (for example mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/cfggameplay.json) and add the line enableCfgGameplayFile = 1; to your serverDZ.cfg. After a server restart the settings are active. The editor's export step shows you the exact path for your map.
Does this work for console servers (PS4/PS5, Xbox, Nitrado)?
Yes. Community servers on console rented through providers like Nitrado support the cfggameplay.json too — upload the file into your mission folder via the provider's file browser or FTP and enable it in the server config exactly like on PC. No mods are required, which is why this file is the main tuning tool for console servers.
What does “Build Anywhere” actually change?
It disables the placement checks that normally block building: collision with objects and players, roof clipping, terrain clipping, height and underwater checks, surface angle limits and the general placement permission. Only the garden plot surface check stays active. This is the classic setup for base building servers — players can place fences, towers and other structures almost anywhere.
Can I edit the cfggameplay.json I already use — including modded values?
Yes. Import your file in the first step: every known value is loaded into the editor, and unknown entries (for example values added by mods) are preserved exactly as they are and written back into the exported file. Broken values are replaced with safe vanilla defaults and reported.
